Officer Johnny Hamlin

Officer Johnny R. Hamlin

Officer Johnny R Hamlin started his law enforcement career as a Reserve Deputy for the Clay County Sheriff’s office in 1995.

 In August of 2007 Officer Hamlin was hired by the City of Ashland Police Department as a Patrol Officer. Officer Hamlin graduated the Northeast Law Enforcement Academy in March of 2008. Officer Hamlin served as a night shift Patrol Officer.

In April of 2010 Officer Hamlin was hired as a Patrol Deputy for the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.

 While employed at the Clay County Sheriff’s Office Officer Hamlin was assigned and accomplished several task and assignments. Officer Hamlin was promoted during his time at the Sheriff’s Department to Patrol Sergeant, Training Officer, Drug Task Force Agent, and Investigator.

Some of the duties Deputy Hamlin was responsible for are follows; supervisor over Sheriff Reserves, Supervisor over Sex Offenders and Warrant Officer.

 Officer Hamlin worked closely with the US Marshals on several cases tracking down and arresting unregistered sex offenders.

 In 2019 Officer Hamlin went to work with the Alabama State Park Services as a Alabama State Park Ranger, assigned to the Cheaha State Park. In October of 2020 Officer Hamlin went to work for Ashland Police Department where he was promoted to a Patrol Sergeant.

In July 2022 Officer Hamlin joined the Town of Wadley family as a day shift patrol officer and firearm instructor.

Officer Hamlin has the following advanced training and certifications.

  • Basic SWAT School
  • FBI Sniper school
  • NRA Firearms Instructor
  • Officer Safety Instructor
  • Active Shooter Instructor
  • Peer Support Counselor
  • Numerous SORNA classes

2012 was named Officer of the year in 2012

Serves as the President of the FOP Cheaha Lodge # 47(Fraternal Order of Police).

Officer Hamlin has a background in martial arts and self-defense and has hosted and taught both civilians, churches, and law enforcement firearms and self-defense classes.
