Officer Jason “Buffalo” Freeman

Officer Jason “Buffalo” Freeman is a part time patrolman for the Town of Wadley. He is an US Army Veteran where he served as an Infantry Soldier as well as a Military Police Officer. During his service, he served on Active Duty, as well as with both the Florida, and Alabama National Guard. His most notable assignment was being deployed to Guantanamo Bay CUBA as a detention MP at Camp Delta where he worked at the JDOG (Joint Detentions Operation Group) who was charged with securing enemy combatant detainees.

After his military service, in 2004, he was hired by Talladega Police Department where he was sent to the Northeast Alabama Police Academy. His duties were patrolling the City of Talladega as a Patrolman, he served as a Field Training Officer as well as a Patrol Sergeant.

Officer Freeman then was employed by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office where during his service there he worked as a Deputy in patrol, Sergeant in Investigations, as well as Patrol Lieutenant.  During his time at Clay County he worked Property Crimes, Narcotics, Sex Crimes, and Crimes against Persons. In Addition to his regular duties, he was also the department’s Special Response Team leader, Firearms Instructor, Active Shooter Instructor. Before leaving the Clay County Sheriff’s Office he served in the position of Chief Deputy where he ran the day-to-day operations of the Sheriff’s Office.

After Officer Freeman was injured in the line of duty in 2009, he served with Wadley Police Department as a Patrol Sergeant as well as School Resource Officer when he returned to Law Enforcement.

In 2020 Officer Freeman was hired by the Alabama State Fire Marshal’s Office where he is now serving full time as a Deputy State Fire Marshal. The Fire Marshal’s Office is responsible for major fire losses, fire fatalities, historic buildings, church fires, any suspected arson, insurance fraud as well as any other major crimes. He is currently a level two fire investigator as well as a level 2 fire inspector. He has attended training at New Mexico Tech at the Energetic Material Research and Testing Facility where he received training on explosives and terrorist bombings.

He is a graduate of Columbia Southern University where he received an Associates degree in Criminal Justice. He is currently attending Faulkner University pursuing his Bachelors, then master’s degree in criminal justice administration. He has been married for 14 years and has two girls.
