Officer Derek Farr:

School Resource Officer Derek Farr began his Law Enforcement career at the Roanoke Police Department.  SRO Farr was hired winter of 1990 as a patrolman.  SRO Farr received his APOST certification at the Northeast Alabama Police Academy in Jacksonville, Alabama in summer of 1991.

SRO Farr worked as a patrolman from his hire date until 1996.  That year SRO Farr completed elementary portion of D.A.R.E. training.  He was assigned to teach the curriculum within the Roanoke City School System.  Later SRO Farr successfully completed the training to teach both the middle school and high school levels.  SRO Farr worked as a D.A.R.E. officer as well as a patrolman.  He was promoted to sergeant in 2004 and was given the task of forming a school resource division for the Roanoke Police Department.  SRO Farr completed Basic, Advance and Management level training, NASRO (National Association of School Resource Officers).

SRO Farr was assigned to the investigative division of the RPD where he worked general investigation as well as narcotics.  SRO Farr was promoted to the rank of lieutenant in 2011 and worked in that compacity until February 2021, at which time he retired.  SRO Farr was hired to serve as the School Resource Officer for the Town of Wadley in August 2022.  SRO Farr was elected in 2016 to serve as a County Commissioner for District 4 of Randolph County.  SRO Farr was re-elected in 2020 and is currently continuing to serve in this compacity.
