Chief Cory W Ligon

Chief Ligon began his Law Enforcement Career in 1996 where he joined the Alabama State Trooper Cadet program. Chief Ligon was assigned to the Alexander City Trooper Post and Graduated the Alabama State Trooper Academy in 1997. Chief Ligon was then assigned to Shelby County out of the Birmingham Trooper Post.

Chief Ligon left Shelby County and returned home and joined the Clay County Sheriff’s Department in 2003. Chief Ligon served as Patrol Lieutenant, Investigator, and Task Force Agent while employed at Clay County Sheriff’s Department.

Chief Ligon was awarded Officer of the year in 2004, 2006, and 2007. Chief Ligon was also award a Special Act Award in 2001 in relation to a traffic accident.

In June of 2012 Chief Ligon Left Clay County Sheriff’s Department and join Heflin Police Department as a patrolman. In October of 2015 Chief Ligon was promoted to patrol Sergeant. During his time at Heflin Police Department, he received numerous letters of commendation from the public and the department.

During his tenure at Heflin Police Department, he was part of the seizure of hundreds of pounds of illegal narcotics. Chief Ligon was also instrumental in seizing and condemning hundreds of thousands of drug money while at Heflin Police Department. This included a single traffic with 216,000 dollars of cartel money enroute back to Mexico. Chief Ligon served as a mentor to educate and teach new Officers “legal” and proper interdiction techniques. 

In 2018 Chief Ligon left Law Enforcement for a short period to do contract security on Gas & Oil Pipelines across the southeast.

Chief Ligon returned to Law Enforcement in 2019 at Wadley Police Department. He was promoted to Sergeant in 2021. Chief Ligon was appointed interim Chief after the previous Chief resigned and was appointed Chief of Wadley Police Department in June 2022.
